About
Jose Clark
During my college time I started a career in Engineering and got
a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. During my first period of actual
work in a manufacturing environment, I’ve done some CAD design,
Production, and Quality activities during almost eight years—I
was doing well. But there was something missing, something that
could make me feel satisfaction for what I do.
Somewhere
during this time I had a chance to get involved within the Engineering
Design Department and help with a new product development that involved
a primitive idea, sketching this idea, CAD translation, building
a prototype and manufacturing final product once approved. This
introduction to Industrial Design expanded my vision about Design.
I realized that my career should change with something that put
some flavor to my work . . .Then, I started to study some graphic
design, buy more art magazines and look to more design books, until
one day I discovered something known as Haute Couture. Which amazed
me—It was after this discovery, I decided to study fashion
design, found a school to get started and got involved. I started
to fall in love with this everyday until I convinced myself to go
further into this type of Design.
After
one year of intense study, I thought I was ready to move from a
manufacturing job to a position in a clothing company. Luckily,
I got accepted to do an internship in a sportswear clothing company
within the Technical Design Department and got hired after some
time, so I moved from the production floor to start a new career
. . . My experience with Engineering would help a bit: CAD—Technical
Sketching/Digital Pattern, Materials Study—Textiles understanding,
Manufacturing—Construction/Quality issues, Maths/Physics—Fitting/Pattern
Making/Specs/Grading, etc,
Maybe
I’ve always been attracted to fashion design since my childhood.
A tailor for an uncle, a seamstress aunt, and a mother who used
to love fashion sketching, put a little seed in my head, I believe.
